JR TWINS WIN BCJPBL CHAMPIONSHIP!
August 11, 2013
It was a year of 'firsts' for the North Shore Junior Twins as they capped a first-place finish in the regular season and winning their first BC Junior Premier Baseball League championship!
The Twins split their opening two games of the playoff tournament in Langley forcing a must-win against Abbotsford Cardinals on Saturday. Max Williams stepped up and recorded a win and a complete game for the Twins. After beating the 'Cards, the Twins needed to win 3 games in a row on Sunday to win the title.
"Winning three games in a day can be intimidating," said Parker Kynoch, Head Coach of North Shore Junior Twins. "The guys did a good job of staying in the moment pitch to pitch and really supported one another."
Braeden Toikka picked up the win, 5-0 over Abbotsford in Sunday's qualifying game to advance to the semi-final where the Twins came up against a good Vancouver Cannons team. The Cannons opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd inning. But, the Twins came right back and grabbed a 3-1 lead after 3 innings. Vancouver came close after scoring one run in the 5th inning. However, North Shore advanced to the final with a 3-2 victory.
Dave Speers, General Manager of North Shore Junior Twins, said "Two gutsy pitching performances, by our starter Robert Hemer and in relief, Trevor Fonseca, plus outstanding defence and timely hitting were the keys to propelling the Junior Twins into their first final in franchise history."
The Twins carried their momentum into the final against the host Langley Blaze scoring 3 runs in the 1st and 2 more in the 2nd as they cruised to a 7-2 win and their first ever championship trophy. Will McAffer pitched a complete game, scattering 5-hits and recorded 9 strikeouts.
"We could not be more proud of this group of players," says Kynoch. "From day one we knew we had a quality group of guys and they stuck with the plan. In the end they were rewarded for their hard work."
Manny Restrepo led the Twins' attack in the playoffs with 7 RBI.
North Shore finished first in the regular season with a 35-9 record, 2 games ahead of second-place Langley. Additional highlights for the Twins included their 21-game winning streak and a no-hitter by left-hander Braeden Toikka.
Matthew Reyes and Noah Ritchie were the top two hitters in the BCJPBL regular season with .414 and .392 batting averages respectively.

FONTAINE IN THE NEWS
December 2012/January 2013
In December, respected sports journalist Tony Gallagher took a look at BC's latest baseball prospect in an article entitled "North Shoreís Lachlan Fontaine latest in B.C.ís hotbed of baseball talent." If you haven't already read the Province article yet, we've saved it for you HERE.
The North Shore Outlook brought us up-to-date on Fontaine's escapes in its article published early in the new year, which is saved HERE.
FONTAINE IMPRESSES IN ARIZONA
ï UPDATED DECEMBER 11, 2012 ï
Lachlan Fontaine spent the weekend impressing the Perfect Game scouts during their 2012 West Uncommitted Showcase at the Camelback Ranch Stadium (White Sox/Dodgers) in Glendale, AZ. Among the heady blog entries (read all of them here) is this one:
"Top 2013 Canadian prospect Lachlan Fontaine (Sutherland HS, North Vancouver, BC) broke out in a big way, impressing the PG scouting staff in three different areas. He had Gold's only 2 hits, including a double that short hopped the right field fence. Defensively, he made on of the more impressive plays of the weekends with a quick handed stab of a hard line drive, a stop that one scout noted "looked like he had a hockey background as a goalie", which might even be true. Fontaine then came into pitch the last inning and topped out at 88 mph with an 82 mph slider that had some bite."
UPDATE (Showcase details / Reports):
Lachlan was identified as the #1 Top Prospect and is now listed as the all-time Infield Velocity Record Holder for this Perfect Game event: his throw across the field was clocked at 90 mph. PG has written:
"Fontaine is just a very good athlete with a wide range of tools that all play up. Heís a strong left handed hitter with power, an agile defender at third base and even throws in the upper 80ís off the mound. Not only is he a high D1 prospect but the professional scouts will have to account for him next spring."
The Twins are proud of Lachlan's success, and know that he has many more good things ahead of him. Keep it up, Lach.

KELLOF & AICHMAIR CONTINUE THE TRADITION
July 1st, 2012
For as long as it has sponsored a team the Douglas College Royals, a member of NWAACC, have looked to the Twins for players to enhance its baseball roster. Example: alumnus Brandon Kaye played two years for the Royals, then two for the UBC Tbirds, and is now playing in the Blue Jays' farm system. Example: the 2012 Royals boasted no fewer than six ex-Twins, two of whom will move on to UBC this September. Another 13 alumni have donned Royals colours.
Enter JORDAN KELLOF and ADAM AICHMAIR.
These two senior right-hand pitchers have followed very similar paths to get to this point. Both were all-stars for Lynn Valley Little League. Both have played for the Twins program throughout their high school careers, competing for the Prep, then the Junior, then the Premier Twins. Both graduated from Argyle Secondary School in North Vancouver. And now they'll share the Douglas College experience.
Aichmair graduated in 2011 and has just completed his first year of academic studies at Douglas; he chose to stay on with the Twins for the 2012 season to perfect his craft while retaining two years of college eligibility.
Kellof, a 2012 grad, will play for the Royals as a true Freshman next season. He has chosen Business Administration as the focus for his studies.
The North Shore Twins wish both players great success in all aspects of their future lives! Congratulations, boys!!
